About Your Inspector

My name is Austin Kerlin, and I am the owner of Kerlin Home Inspections, LLC. As for my background, I’ve been involved with construction in some form or another all of my life. It started as a kid helping my father remodel and renovate our home. I did a lot of handyman work throughout college and remodeled my own homes. I graduated college with a bachelor’s degree in physics.  While putting my wife through college, I worked as an industrial millwright, where I learned to troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical and electrical systems, which is far beyond your average home inspector’s knowledge.

I received my official inspector education and training from InterNACHI, where I have earned the designation of Certified Professional Inspector. I have passed the National Home Inspector Examination and am licensed to operate in Alabama. Since becoming licensed I have joined several local home inspector organizations which provide continuing education, these are AHIO, ASHI south chapter, and an InterNACHI chapter here in Birmingham.

I’ve spent many years working on all kinds of systems: electrical, mechanical, plumbing, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, fabricating, etc.  I’m a true jack of all trades and I’ve spent countless hours on all types of residential remodeling and repair projects. I’m a woodworker in my spare time; building and fixing things is what I do

Not only do I love to build things, I’m an entrepreneur. I’m a go-getter with a can-do attitude, but I don’t rush inspections. I understand home buying is a critical time, and doesn’t happen often. Purchasing a home is usually the largest investment a person makes in their lifetime, and can be very stressful. I know you want an inspector who will take their time and be thorough, and give you the best inspection possible. You can rest assured I’ll be there as long as I need to get the job done right. I am confident that with my knowledge and experience you will be pleased with your inspection.
